PA Live! Blog of the Week: Pennsylvania Haunts and History

NEPA Blogs will be presenting the "Blog of the Week" on WBRE's PA Live! every Tuesday. PA Live! airs weekday afternoons on WBRE from 4:00 to 5:00.

Our PA Live! Blog of the Week this week is Pennsylvania Haunts and History

Pennsylvania is a state with a long and sometimes tragic history. Along the way it has accumulated a number of places that some people think are haunted, or bear the aftereffects of the events that took place there.  Pennsylvania Haunts and History is a blog all about those places, in NEPA and beyond. It's full of accounts of visits to these places, as well as information on how to visit them yourself. Some are open to the public. Others are a bit more off the beaten path. Whether you prefer doing your investigation of haunted places with a flashlight or a laptop - or even both at the same time - Pennsylvania Haunts and History is a site that you will find fascinating. Creepy stories, haunted places, and spookiness of all sorts since October 2007.

Blogs are a great way to showcase the unique aspects of a region. Pennsylvania Haunts and History focuses on the spooky and supernatural, but there's a lot more to Northeastern Pennsylvania than just that. If you happen to know a lot about some facet of NEPA, why not blog about it and share your knowledge with the world!

PA Live! Blog of the Week: Barry and Cathy Beck's Blog

NEPA Blogs will be presenting the "Blog of the Week" on WBRE's PA Live! every Tuesday. PA Live! airs weekday afternoons on WBRE from 4:00 to 5:00.

Our PA Live! Blog of the Week this week is Barry and Cathy Beck's Blog

Even if you (like me) have never been fishing and know next to nothing about fishing, it's hard not to be fascinated by some aspect of fly fishing. Whether it's the delicate and intricate art of fly-tying (and what happens to those flies after they get used? Are they discarded, or rinsed off, fluffed up, and used again?) to the precise technique for casting a line without becoming entangled in a hundred yards of monofilament, there is much that is intriguing about this meditative sport.  Barry and Cathy Beck's Blog  is all about fly fishing in NEPA and around the world. Not only are they NEPA-based fly fishing experts, they are also guides who host fly fishing trips all around the world. Their blog features many informative articles about fly fishing and plenty of magazine-quality photos. It's full of news, travel information, and reports from the field...well, not so much the field, as the river or stream.

Once upon a time the typical neighborhood newsstand would have hundreds of different magazines for sale, magazines that seemingly covered every possible aspect of the human experience. Print may not be dead (despite what Harold Ramis's character declared in the 1984 film Ghostbusters), but blogs have pretty much moved into this ecological niche, with at least one blog focused on almost every topic you can imagine. Barry and Cathy Beck's Blog has fly fishing covered. What topics are you interested in that don't have a blog yet? Do you know more than most people about this topic? Do you know enough about the topic to actually start a blog?

Then what are you waiting for? Get blogging!

PA Live! Blog of the Week: My Invisible Camera

NEPA Blogs will be presenting the "Blog of the Week" on WBRE's PA Live! every Tuesday. PA Live! airs weekday afternoons on WBRE from 4:00 to 5:00.

Our PA Live! Blog of the Week this week is My Invisible Camera (http://www.myinvisiblecamera.com/).

A picture, the saying goes, is worth a thousand words, but the right words can create an image more vivid and real than any photograph. My Invisible Camera is a photo blog by Tanya, dedicated to saving moments using both words and pictures.

"My invisible camera is a personal evolution of how I capture moments. When I first began this blog I was a photographer first and foremost. After being diagnosed with lupus I began to explore different ways to ‘save’ moments. I equate this blog to being ‘my invisible camera’–a way for me to take a snapshot of something amazing/brilliant/dear to me, whether with photographs or words, preserve it in all its glory, and share it here."

Many people use blogs to capture the moments that they want to be sure are not lost, preserving them in words and images. Tanya's My Invisible Camera is a brilliant and beautiful example of how this is done.
