Massive Blog Round-up (Part 2)

....Continuing on with part 2 of our massive mailbox clean-up, here are blogs that were sent in from December 2016 - May 2014. If some of these are duplicates, my apologies! It's growing increasingly difficult to shuffle through our extensive blogroll. Now that the mailbox is all cleaned up, feel free to send any suggestions to us via nepablogs@gmail.com. We would also love to connect with you on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/nepabloggers/

Tim Maloney
https://maloneyofnepa.com/
Tim Maloney is a 20-something queer Muslim based out of the Wyoming Valley. As an activist and blogger, he has a passion for advocating nonviolence, sex positivity, and social justice. Tim graduated from Keystone College with a BA in Communication Arts & Humanities. In 2016, he received the Best Life Blog award at NEPA BlogCon’s Blog of the Year Awards. Maloney was also the 2017 recipient of the Susan Merrill Constance Kozel Award by the Interfaith Resource Center for Peace and Justice in Wilkes-Barre.

Deadicatedfans.com
http://deadicatedfans.com
Michael writes "I lived in West Pittston, PA most of my life before moving to DuPont, and now Forty Forty, PA. It's a website dedicated to die-hard fans of sports, movies, gaming or comics, with plans to expand into tech and music."

Oat and Sesame
Emily writes "My kitchen adventures take place in sunny Flagstaff, Arizona. By day, I’m a staff member at Northern Arizona University. My free time is spent cooking, gardening, enjoying the great outdoors + squeezing kitties! Oat&Sesame is a place to share recipes, promote conversation and conjure up some creative inspirations!" Emily wrote to us back in August of 2016. At the time she lived in Northeast PA (Scranton), it seems that she's taken her adventures on the road to Arizona!

Jenny Kile's Kardects and Mysterious Writings
Jenny has been a huge lifesaver with helping plan NEPA BlogCon over the last few years and she even did a few guest posts on our blog. The Kardtects blog focuses on creative ways to build structures (read: paper cards!) and her Mysterious Writings blog is about the art of treasure hunting.

Waverly Community House Archives
From the mailbag: "My name is Gia Reviello and I am the Comm Classroom & Archive Director at the Waverly Community House. I stumbled upon your website while searching for blogs in the NEPA area and thought it was a great resource! I started the Waverly Community House Archive Blog in February of 2016 and was wondering if you would take a look at it? I am attempting to gain more general interest and get the word out there to those interested in local history." As of this writing, the WCH Archive blog is still going strong!

Amy Fedele's Bullzeye Design & Pretty Purple Door
Amy lives in Old Forge, original from Moscow (North Pocono). Bullzeye Design focuses on small business startup and entrepreneur tips and tutorials. Pretty Purple Door is her DIY / Home Renovation blog.

Luke and Life
Luke writes "I'm from Union Dale PA.  I've just recently began following your page on fb, and have been reading some of the featured blogs.  I plan to attend the NEPA BlogCon this year.  I'd love for you to check out my blog." This blog appears to be mostly dead, but I'm linking it in the hopes that Luke will find his way back to blogging.

Henry Smith's Cottage
"A blog about photography with occasional rants on life"
Sadly, there hasn't been any activity on this blog since 2016. Come back! Blogging misses you!

Victorian Wanna Be
Another abandoned blog, but there is so much charm in what is posted, that I couldn't help but to link it. "I work for a local Estate Sale and Garage Sale Company and have way too much fun with that! In my free time I enjoy going to auctions and searching Antique malls and flea markets for Victorian treasures. I am constantly trying to "Victorianize" my 1989 home with these treasures. I love to decorate, create vignettes and enjoy staging photos."

Berks Plastic Surgery
Dr. Reedy's is a plastic surgeon in Berks County. If you're looking into having work done, check out this blog for more information. *though TECHNICALLY Berks County wouldn't be considered NEPA*

C.T. Sneak
Chelsea writes "I was wondering if my blog might be able to be added to NEPA Blogs. I'm a new blogger, and I'm apprehensive to say that my blog is political. I write about what I think about current politics, but my underlining concern is social justice." This blog is still very much active.

Sally Black's Vacationing Blogs
Sally Black, much like Jenny Kile (her blog is linked above), was a TREMENDOUS lifesaver for NEPA BlogCon over the years. She works primarily as a travel agent and has traveled far and wide. She knows a thing or two about vacationing with your family and has even published a book about it. She also spoke at NEPA BlogCon 2016 and has also helped along the way with guest posts.

The University of Scranton SBDC Blog
The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides educational programs and no cost, confidential consulting services to entrepreneurs looking to start a small business or grow an existing small business in Bradford County, Lackawanna County, Monroe County, Pike County, Susquehanna County, Tioga County, Wayne County, and Wyoming County in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania French
"Re-Painted, Re-Purposed, Re-loved"
Pamela writes "If Mt Bethel counts as NE PA, would you consider adding my blog to your list?"

Brandon Lipani's Blog & Podcast
As you can tell from the titles of both the blog and podcast, the focus is technology driven.

And lastly series of Northeast PA authors with blogs....

“Giving History a Heartbeat” by Cindy Noonan, author of Dark Enough to See the Stars, soon to be published by Helping Hands Press: http://www.CindyNoonan.com

“Penned Without Ink” by Sarah Lynn Phillips, http://www.SarahLynnPhillips.com

“BUT-Kickers: Growing Your Faith Bigger Than Your ‘BUT!” by Sherry Boykin, http://www.SherryBoykin.com

That's it kids, the current mailbox is now at 0! I promise I won't allow it to get that out of control again!

Massive Blog Round-up (Part 1)

It's been a while since I've posted here. I'm not going to lie, I miss it a lot. Job commitments were the primary reason that I've stayed away as long as I have. Now that I have more time and freedom on my hands, I figured I'd ease in slowly by going through our mailbag which has been neglected for a while. I'm going to do this in two parts because there are a ton of unanswered emails to contend with. If you have emailed us, fear not! The email is still sitting (likely unanswered) in our inbox. I will be getting to it shortly! Without further ado....part 1 of my inbox clean-up.

Chris Bohinski's NYC Smile 4 Me
https://www.nycsmile4me.com
NYC Smile 4 Me's mission is to spread happiness, positivity, and joy by chronicling Boh the Smile Guy asking the same 4-word question to everyone he meets,“What makes you smile?” Chris (AKA "Boh the Smile Guy") currently lives in Wilkes-Barre Township (despite the NYC title of the blog) and has been featured on PA Live! and also in the Healthbeat segment with Mark Hiller.

Henning's Local
www.henningslocal.com
This isn't really a blog, it's more of a website and it's TECHNICALLY in New York, but they have some cool stuff going on that they wanted to inform you about through us. So if you are vacationing or looking for something different to do that's within a short drive of Northeast PA, be sure to check them out. From the email: "Each week Henning’s Local will be screening favorite films about mothers, from the unforgettable evil villains to classic characters who stole our hearts. In addition to our regular menu, we will be offering a prix fixe meatloaf dinner, and blue-plate specials at the bar. Bring mom, and her dinner is on Henning. #eatlocal #momsmeatloaf"

No Time For Wine
https://notimeforwine.com
Brenda writes "I am originally from Susquehanna County and have been working on my blog www.notimeforwine.com  It documents my move from Single Mommy working a full time job, to now Married Stay at Home Mommy adjusting to my new life."

NACL Theater
https://www.nacl.org/
Tannis Kowalchuk painstakingly includes NEPA Blogs on all of her press releases for the NACL Theater productions, some of which look very interesting. This is another one of those "not blog" submissions, but I feel guilty for not having given her a mention before. NACL (National Americal Cultural Laboratory) is a non-profit theater company in the southwestern Catskill region. If you are in the area or passing through, it's worth checking out.

Here's to Happy Endings
http://www.herestohappyendings.com
Kelly writes "I'm from northeast PA and have a book focused blog that I thought might be neat to have listed on your site! I've had the blog going since June of 2015, and it's updated pretty much daily and has a decent following. It features book reviews, discussions, giveaways, and other book and reading related things."

http://www.thegreendishblog.com
Welcome! I'm Caroline, the blog's author and I've been struggling for the past few months with the decision of becoming vegan after watching a few documentaries (Food Inc, Forks Over Knives and Vegucated), and the more I think about it, I know the best decision for me is to become vegan. Changes are not easy and that's why I decided to create this blog as a way to encourage not only myself but also others, to share my journey throughout this new year and new lifestyle. I'll be sharing many vegan recipes and I hope you'll join me here at The Green Dish - One Healthy Dish at a Time!

I Heart Direct Sales
http://iheartdirectsales.blogspot.com/
Rebecca wrote me and asked if I would include her blog in our blogroll last March (as in 2017). Eeek! Sorry, Rebecca, I'm bad at emails. After revisiting this blog, it appears to have been abandoned. Who knows, maybe she'll pick it back up after seeing this post.

Lovely In Gold
https://lovelyingold.com
Kelli writes "I am a NEPA fashion and lifestyle blogger and would love to submit my blog to your site. My blog is called Lovely in Gold."

Mark's Bike Tock
http://marksbiketock.blogspot.com/

"In my spare time I enjoy riding my bike on car free trails. I am especially happy riding a trail I have never been on before. I ride 3000+ miles per year and so far have been on over 70 trails across 9 states. I ride in temperatures from 10 degrees F to 105 degrees F."

That is the inbox from March 2018 back through January 2017. Tomorrow, we'll dig even further back in time!

Agent Teachers

I came across this blog in a LinkedIn Group that I had recently joined.  JW Hoban & Associates is an insurance agency located on Carey Ave in Wilkes-Barre.  They recently turned to blogging to help educate the public about the ins and outs of insurance.

Agent Teachers

http://jwhobanassociates.blogspot.com

The blog is authored by Jerry Usher - one of the Sales Agents of the group.  Are you looking to manage your risk?  Or want to know why insurance is so expensive?  Or want to get a clearer definition of what insurance actually is?  This blog will be right up your alley.

You can also learn more at the Agency by visiting their website - http://www.hobanassociates.com

To All a Good Write

Submitted via email, here's a blog about writing and how to do it better:

To All a Good Write

http://www.toallagoodwrite.blogspot.com/

This is the forum of To All a Good Write, a freelance-editing business in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Here, I provide observations, opinions and advice regarding the use of words and grammar in writing, editing and speech. At times light-hearted, at times a bit cynical, this blog’s goals are to simplify the complicated and make an often-dry subject more appealing.

About the blogger, Mike Liechty:

I'm a freelance editor with my own business, To All a Good Write, based in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. I provide editing, proofreading and tutoring for businesses, nonprofit organizations, students and authors. Find out more about me and my services at www.toallagoodwrite.com.

Anyone can write, but writing well is a skill that takes effort to develop. Check out Mike Liechty's To All a Good Write blog for tips on how to improve your writing! And while you're there, check out the links to Mike's Facebook page, and his business website!

Colin Devroe's Blog

Colin Devroe is a perpetually fascinated NEPA blogger residing in Jermyn.  I learned about his blog through Jason Gaylord, Karla Porter and the lovely Darling Stewie.  Colin is also known in our circle as "the Viddler guy".  Colin was one of the founders of Viddler an online web video content management platform.  More details can be found about the Bethlehem, PA business by checking out their website here.

Colin's blog can be found at:
http://cdevroe.com/blog/

Colin blogs about technology, photography,  his diet, and live in general.  He has a little something to interest everyone.

We are looking to invite Colin to be one of the speakers at NEPA Blog Con which is happening on Saturday, September 29th 2012 at the Technology Center of LCCC.  Stay tuned for upcoming announcements about the event.

Rick's Pocono Blog

One industry that has embraced the use of blogs is Real Estate. Real Estate blogs allow individual realtors to tell their stories, showcase their properties, and be both more personal and more persuasive when it comes to connecting with potential customers.

Rick Cordisco is a blogger and realtor operating out of the Poconos. His individual posts focus on specific properties, or show the wonders of the Poconos in general - all the things that might appeal to someone thinking about purchasing a property in the region. In doing so he paints a picture of the Poconos many of us are familiar with, but at the same time highlights features that may be new even to lifelong residents of NEPA. Check out his blog and see for yourself!

Flavor of the Med

A submission via e-mail:

Hello,
I own an online business based in Tobyhanna that has a blog online: http://flavorofmed.com/index.php/blog

At first I thought this might be...like, a company that made flavorings for medicine? But, no! The "Med" in "Flavor of the Med" is the Mediterranean, and it's a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Online Grocery. Go through the entries and see if you don't find yourself wishing that Flavor of the Med had a bricks-and-mortar presence where you could visit and smell and taste the foods!  If you're a fan of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking and are looking for some recipe ideas or an online source of ingredients, stop by Flavor of the Med and have a look around!

Do you own a business in Northeastern Pennsylvania? Have you considered using a blog as part of your business model? It's a great way of connecting with current and future customers, and letting the world know about what you have to sell. If you're in NEPA and have a business blog, contact us at nepablogs@gmail.com and we'll list it here at NEPA Blogs!

Twigs Restaurant, Cafe & Radio

Twigs Restaurant & Cafe is located in the heart of historic downtown Tunkhannock. Despite the devastation that occurred during the recent flooding, Twigs is open for business. I recently found their website by listening to the Gem 104 radio station. Twigs has a blog that they use to discuss to menu items, recipes, wine pairings and promotions. Here's another interesting thing - they also have an Internet Radio station. I found this announced in passing from their Twitter account @TwigsCafe.

More about the restaurant:

Our Mission at Twigs Restaurant and Café is "to offer outstanding food expertly served in a comfortable atmosphere." Our chefs use only the freshest market ingredients and incorporate the finest foods from around the globe.

Twigs also offers catering on your premises complete with a private chef who will meet your every expectation. Twigs has other options for on site parties. Call us for all your catering needs and any help needed to pull off the perfect event.

Open Daily 11am to 9pm (10pm Friday & Saturday)
1 East Tioga Street, Historic Route 6
Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania 18657

I have only heard good reviews of this restaurant's food. I'd highly recommend checking it out if your travels ever take you where Rte 29 & 6 intersect.

Country Baby Handmade

Country Baby Handmade
http://country-baby.blogspot.com

Country Baby Handmade is the blog of Amber; a mother, wife and nurse from Northeastern PA. She is extremely crafty and uses her blog to chat about her love of DIY and Handmade everything. She also has an Etsy store where she sells stuff she makes located here. You can find Amber's adorable daughter modeling some of her fashions. According to Amber, her daughter is her inspiration for a lot of the items that she creates. "...a lot of these items I originally made for her to use but because of my love for hand crafting things I decided to make it a lucrative business to help supplement my income while I stay home and spend valuable time with her."

About Country Baby:

Country Baby is a great shop to find handmade flower headbands made with great quality silk and acrylic flowers, fabric flowers and more in your choice of sizes ranging from infant to adult. I also offer machine sewn, hand sewn and embellished; hats, blankets, dresses, toys and many shabby chic styled accessories. All of my items are made to order with great attention to detail for you and your little one. I have several coupon codes and special promotions available to my new and returning customers. Thank you for stopping by at Country Baby's Etsy Shop!! You can also find me on Facebook and through Blogger. Please feel free to message me with any custom order requests or any payment questions.

Amber, we wish you the best of luck with your business. Hopefully, a mention on NEPA Blogs will be just what you need to give your sales a boost!

La Cascina: The blog of Old Tioga Farm

Another one from the mailbag! In this case, Nicole from Springhouse Woodshop and "Here and Now...and Then" suggested to her friend that she submit her blog to be listed on NEPA Blogs:

My husband Justin and I run a small, seasonal restaurant called Old Tioga Farm in rural Luzerne County (http://www.oldtiogafarm.com/). Our blog is La Cascina (The Farmhouse) at http://www.oldtiogafarm.wordpress.com/. We've been operating for 4 years.

Fantastic! Here it is:

La Cascina
http://oldtiogafarm.wordpress.com/

This is quite clearly a treasure in Luzerne County - my own back yard - about which I knew nothing! How many other such treasures are waiting out there? And how many of them have blogs? Nicole, thanks for letting your friend know about us!

If you or your friend is a blogger in Northeastern Pennsylvania, originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania, or just blog about Northeastern Pennsylvania, please let us know - or ask them to contact us!

Lisa Ceaser Photography

Here's a blog that I've struggled with for a while - I've had it in reserve, but I was having a hard time verifying that this was actually by someone from Northeastern Pennsylvania. I was about to send her a query by email when I recognized her address: she is a blogger we actually have listed already with another blog, the name of which I need to change.

(Odd story: I actually "met" this blogger a few years ago through the blog site of a once-prolific blogger in Michigan whose blog we both read and commented on regularly. I followed back the link on one of her comments to her blog, and that's where things started.)

Lisa Ceaser Photography
http://www.lisaceaserphotography.com/

From her "About":

Do you like pretty pictures? Me, too!

And I want to share my eye for pretty pictures with you. I want to make you see, feel, experience all that is beautiful in this world. And I want to capture special memories and moments in time and preserve them for you for an eternity.

My style has been called "photojournalistic". I don't try to make you sit, stand, smile in positions that are uncomfortable, unnatural or just overdone. I shoot your family/event/wedding as it happens, with an eye for details that tell the story from the heart. Yes, we will do the traditional bridal party shots, the grandparents, the bride and groom. But when you choose me for your wedding/portraits/event, you get much more and at an affordable price.

If you're a blogger based in Northeastern Pennsylvania, or are from Northeastern Pennsylvania, or blog about Northeastern Pennsylvania, or know someone who falls into any of these categories, please drop us a line at nepablogs@gmail.com and we'll be happy to list you - or them!

Dr. Glenn Czulada, Chiropractor

I've always found small business blogs vastly preferable to business websites that amount to little more than static online ads. A blog is interactive, allowing customers and clients, or potential customers and clients, to interact with the business via its blog and come to a better understanding of who they'll be dealing with.

This one is by Dr. Glenn Czulada, a Scranton area Chiropractor:

http://czchiro.com/

24years of caring for bad backs: Dr.Glenn Czulada, a Scranton area Chiropractor, tells his story

Dr.Glenn Czulada practices Chiropractic in Dunmore, Pa. He uses hands-on techniques called adjustments to assist the body in its' ability to heal itself. Many patients seek his treatment for their spine and joint pain related to muscle spasm, misalignments, sciatica, neck pain, disc herniation, spinal stenosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, tendonitis and fibromyalgia. He has had experience and excellent results using his treatment approach with thousands of patients.
Even though Dr. Czulada just started this blog three weeks ago at the time of this writing, it is quite well-developed, written in a way that is both personal and specific to Northeastern Pennsylvania. His sidebar contains business information, an interactive map, a slideshow, and a photo of Dr. Czulada holding what at first glance I thought was a banjo. Check it out!

Do you have a blog for your business in Northeastern Pennsylvania? Let us know, and we'll post a link!
