We received this email a few months ago and I accidentally misplaced it! My apologies to Tanya for the delay in writing about her blog.
From Tanya's words: "My invisible camera is a personal evolution of how I capture moments.
When I first began this blog I was a photographer first and foremost.
After being diagnosed with lupus I began to explore different ways to
‘save’ moments. I equate this blog to being ‘my invisible camera’–a way

whether with photographs or words, preserve it in all its glory, and

Andy Palumbo Suggestions
My friend and fellow co-worker Andy Palumbo sent me a twitter message the other day (ok, maybe more like a month ago) with some new bloggers he wanted to see us link to.
John Quigley is a former Hazleton mayor. He talks about green living and fracking on his blog, which we all know is a hot button issue in Northeast PA these days.

If you haven't visited in a while, you should take another look at Andy's blog. Right now he has some bad photography featuring buildings in Wilkes-Barre that may be on the endangered list (staying with our Hotel Sterling theme on our blog this week). I must say that Andy is probably one of the more dedicated bloggers I know. He posts something new every day. I wish I had that level of energy for my personal blog!

From the Mailbag: 2 from Aimee Waltman (and a shameless plug)
I've been corresponding through email with Aimee Waltman of Watsontown this weekend about her blogs and wanting to be included on the blog roll here on NEPA Blogs. Technically, Watsontown is in Northumberland County and according to Wikipedia (citation needed), it is considered part of Northeastern PA. At any rate, whether you agree or disagree with this will be irrelevant when you see the beautiful pictures that are posted in these blogs!
The Here & There blog features photography of historic places throughout Pennsylvania.
From the about: I have a (possibly unhealthy) fascination with local history and all things "old." This blog is photo based because that is what I enjoy most. I usually add a fact or two to describe the location and why I chose to photograph it. I will occasionally do a larger post if the subject warrants.
The Dear Harper blog is a photography and inspiration blog.
From the about: I am a work in progress, learning as I go. This applies to all the things I do and love: parenting, photography, blogging. Always focused on the next level, never perfection. Life is better when it's a little messy, right?

Poor Parking in PA
Rock 107's morning DJ, Prospector, gets angry when he's out and about and notices people who have issues with parking properly. These inept parkers may have parked in between two spaces, parked in a handicapped spot with no tags, or parked between two meters. Prospector decided to take his frustrations with these "yambags" to a Tumblr photo blog called "Poor Parking in PA".

I needed to take a few days off from blogging. I had reached my maximum blogging energy unit usage updating 3 blogs last week. It's been a nice vacation, but now it's time to get back to work.

Natural gas drilling and development has begun to spread throughout the Endless Mountains. While these activities can bring great economic opportunities, it can also threaten our environment and natural resouces if not properly managed. I am not against drilling, but I feel there must be a balance. I am very concerned how so much of our public lands have been leased for drilling; this is land held in the public trust for all people. If excessive drilling on public lands is allowed, it will result in the destruction of tens of thousands of acres of forests, habitats, and beautiful natural areas. Our state forests and game lands attract millions of visitors from around the world to enjoy the outdoors (and spend their money in our communities). But who will want to hunt, fish, kayak, backpack, camp, hike, or bike ride among rigs, gas wells, and compressor stations? Who will want to visit parks and forests bulldozed for drilling? We must preserve these special places for not only future generations, but also this one."

PA Live! Blog of the Week: Frank's Place

Our PA Live! Blog of the Week this week is Frank's Place by Frank Dutton (http://frank-dutton.blogspot.com/).
Frank Dutton is a local history buff who is also a darned fine photographer. Most of the posts at Frank's Place are built around photos taken in and around Scranton. He photographs landscapes, nature scenes (especially waterfalls,) architecture, trains, and anything else that catches his eye. His blog captures the world of today in its photographs, but often features images from the past as well.
Frank Dutton has been blogging at Frank's Place since May of 2007. In that time he hasn't been afraid to repeat himself, taking numerous images of subjects like Nay Aug Falls and the Steamtown Trolley. When viewed together, each series of images can be viewed as a progression over time. Frank's blogging is remarkably regular, with exactly 384 posts each year from 2008 through 2011. (2007 was a partial year that started in May, while 2012 is incomplete.)
It's been said that blogging is the history of now, documenting both the ephemeral and the profound details of the world in which we live today so readers at some later time might form a more complete picture of who we were. Through his photographs, Frank Dutton has turned Frank's Place into a valuable reference tool for tomorrow's historians. Check it out and see if maybe you've been missing something that's still around!

Uncharted Frontier EZine
Allan Kaspar, of the DnA Project Band blog is starting a new project that involves a blog. I interviewed him about the new endeavor via text message.
Me: "What's this new thing you are doing?"
Al: "I'm starting a free ezine for short fiction writers, artists and photographers who are not yet mainstream. It will distribute through all smart phone bookshelves/libraries. Going to be an awesome creative venture."

Cheri Sundra is a photographer who is fascinated with ruins, abandoned places, and the forgotten history of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Time, decay, and vandalism all work to gradually chip away at the past, and Cheri is grabbing visual records of those places that are all but forgotten. From Concrete City in Nanticoke to the once-thriving but now vanished Kirby Park Zoo, from the relatively recently closed Angela Park to the rapidly decaying Croop's Glen Amusement Park in Hunlock's Creek, Cheri makes a record of those places that have been, for the most part, left to rot. In some cases, like the Huber Breaker in Ashley, there is an effort under way to stop the decay; in other cases, photographs and memories will soon be all that is left.
Northeastern Pennsylvania has a long history that goes back hundreds of years, to before the founding of this nation and even thousands of years before that. Some of that history is still with us; some of it is now known only to archaeologists. And some of it is in an in-between state, passing from the ruins that are still with us to the point where nothing recognizable will remain. That's what Cheri is working to capture.
Do you know of any secret, hidden places that are passing away forever? If you have a camera and permission to be there, and if you can do it safely, why not grab some images while there's still time? And then why not share these records of our region's past with the rest of the world. If you decide to do it, let us know at nepablogs@gmail.com!

And what images! He refers to his photography as "abstract work grounded in nature." He does extreme close-up work (see this study of water and ice), but also takes spectacular images of landscapes (like this compilation of images taken last Autumn) and even the un-natural works of man (like these heartbreaking yet beautiful images of what was once the luxurious Penn Hills resort.) He also finds the hidden treasures along the way - when a visit to a baseball museum turned out to be disappointingly unphotogenic, a nearby clock repair shop provided the most amazing opportunities for photographs.
Northeastern Pennsylvania has many fine photographers, and Mike Burnside is one who has chosen to share his images though his blog, Burnside Photographic. We may not all have his skill, eye, and experience, but if you have a camera and a computer, you can start capturing your own images and sharing them with the world on a blog. Mike Burnside is a native of Northeastern Pennsylvania who has been highly active in the NEPA community for many years. He is a veteran of the local media scene as well as a member of the Cultural Council of Luzerne County. "I live in northeastern pennsylvania" + blog
That was the search I decided to try today. The phrase "i live in northeastern pennsylvania" plus the word "blog." It was a shot in the dark, but I thought it might yield some results. And it did.
Michelle Coulter has a blog on the Open Salon network which, as best I can tell, is called either "Fence Posts" or, more simply, "Michelle Coulter's Blog." I didn't discover her blog directly, but followed her back from a comment she left elsewhere that had the magic phrase in it. Judging by the content of the front page, it appears to be a poetry blog.

The second blog I found is called "Plank House Construction." From its "About Me" page:
Hello, my name is Dennis and I live in northeastern Pennsylvania. The reason I published this blog is one day I was going through a forum for a home repair website and I saw this question from a woman who has a plank house and was looking for information on how to go about remodeling it. Well. she got 3 or 4 replies and even had one from a contractor. A few tried to help but with a plank house, their suggestions were not very helpful. The contractor was not much help either. Most of the forums I go through the replies are to tear the house down and build a new house. For some people this might be a good idea, but then you have to think about all the other expenses such as having blueprints drawn up, all the new codes that must be followed. I own a plank house and have spent the last six years remodeling it. I went through all of the problems you can possibly have when remodeling a plank house. I have installed new electrical, new plumbing, new doors and windows, new heating system, leveled floors and ceilings, built new interior walls, new drywall, anything you can think of I did it to this house. The house is an 1870's Victorian house and I am about 90% finished. When I read in this forum about the problem this woman was having I had to reply to her and try and help her out. Needless to say she was thrilled with the information I supplied her. I have been working in carpentry since I graduated high school in the early 70's and about 75% of the homes I worked in were plank houses. They are very well built homes and with proper upkeep they will last a very long time. If anyone has questions or problems that I can help you with feel free to contact me.
I'm a little fuzzy on what a plank house is, and for all I know I may own one. Many of the houses in NEPA are very old, built with construction methods that may baffle modern contractors. A blog like this can be very helpful.

This next one...I'm not even sure if it counts as a blog. It's the Vimeo site for Matt Taylor, who identifies himself as living in New Milford and says "I live in northeastern pennsylvania. I like to make little videos." I don't know if a collection of apparently unconnected videos counts as a blog - but, what the heck, let's say that it does.

The final blog I'll list in this post is called cdevroe.com. Colin Devroe lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania - or at least did, back in 2005. Many of his recent posts are from the far-off territory known as the Lehigh Valley, which may or may not be part of Northeastern Pennsylvania, depending on who you ask. From a quick scan of the most recent posts, it seems like this is a "Life" blog as well as a Technology blog. Maybe even a Photo blog!

Burnside Photographic
My dear friend and mentor (Frank) Mike Burnside, sent me a request through Facebook to add his newest blog to the site. You may remember him from the Late Night Meanderings blog or his alter-ego "Bonanza Bob" from the great annual WVIA TV Auction.
