PA Live! Blog of the Week: Uncovering PA

NOTE: Due to a scheduling conflict, this Blog of the Week segment did not air on September 23. It has been rescheduled to air on September 30.

NEPA Blogs will be presenting the "Blog of the Week" on WBRE's PA Live! every Tuesday. PA Live! airs weekday afternoons on WBRE from 4:00 to 5:00.

Our PA Live! Blog of the Week this week is Uncovering PA (http://uncoveringpa.com/).

Uncovering PA is a travel blog covering all of Pennsylvania, by Jim Cheney. Unbiased, unrestrained, honest travel reviews without a hidden agenda. A great resource for helping folks in NEPA discover the hidden treasures scattered throughout the state, since August 2013.

The Happiness Blogger

From the NEPA Blogs mailbag:

Hello,

I would love to be added to your list.  I found your site through the NEPA Blog Con website, I am a blogger in NEPA... My site is thehappinessblogger.com

Please let me know how what steps I should take to be added.

Thank you,

Michelle Westbrook

Getting added is easy: you just submit your blog (or someone else submits it, or Michelle or I just sort-of find out about it), we put it through our stringent qualification tests (by someone who is from NEPA, or lives or lived in NEPA, or is blogging about NEPA, or has a a blog based out of NEPA), and then we do a little write-up and add it to the sidebar lists.

Eventually.

Both Michelle and I have been up to all sorts of non-NEPA Blogs stuff lately (including, in Michelle's case, the third annual NEPA BlogCon, which she organizes and runs with several other leading regional bloggers, and is coming up on October 11 at Misericordia University, and you totally totally should go to), and the posting of new blogs (as well as the purging of defunct blogs) has been lagging, a lot. We've got a huge backlog. I'm trying to post at least one new blog a week, and even that takes effort. On the plus side, several of the blogs that were submitted but were never posted have folded in the meanwhile, so at least we didn't go through the trouble of posting things which weren't destined to stick around - unless, of course, our failure to post is what caused these blogs to fold, in which case I feel absolutely awful.

This one is still around. Check it out! From the About page:

This blog is my way of reaching out to fellow happiness seekers in hopes of building a community of amazingly happy people! I don’t have all of the answers but I have made the decision to make happiness a priority in my life (because who wants to be unhappy?)

PA Live! Blog of the Week: Highway 81 Revisited

NEPA Blogs will be presenting the "Blog of the Week" on WBRE's PA Live! every Tuesday. PA Live! airs weekday afternoons on WBRE from 4:00 to 5:00.

Our PA Live! Blog of the Week this week is Highway 81 Revisited (http://highway81revisited.com/).

Since March 2011, this Scranton-based blog has played on a national stage with news, reviews, and interviews about all aspects of music.  Highway 81 Revisited doesn't shy away from its Northeastern Pennsylvania roots, and celebrates them in its title. But at the sane time, the quality and quantity of material presented puts it right up there with the best national music blogs. If you're interested in music in NEPA and throughout the nation and around the world, check out Highway 81 Revisited!

And What I Ate

From the NEPA Blogs mailbag:

Hi - I came across your blog and wanted to send you the link to my own!  Thanks for some of your reccos, I've added a couple new favorites to my reading rotation.

My blog is www.andwhatiate.com - it's mainly recipes, but also some personal posts and travel. I've gotten really into cooking over the last few years and this has been a pretty fun project. Plus, I get to track the Google Analytics and see where everyone is coming from (over 150 countries and all 7 continents!) which totally appeals to my inner nerd.

Let me know if you have questions - keep up the good work!

And What I Ate (http://www.andwhatiate.com/) is a food blog by self-described "foodie, yoga enthusiast, reader, writer, runner & music lover with just a little wanderlust" Westyn Lane, who describes the blog as "mainly (happily, but accidentally) gluten-free, and has an emphasis on healthy & local/organic cooking, " It's also full of photos of food and food prep (it turns out color coordination and accessorization is crucial in the making of blueberry pancakes!) If you enjoy good food, this is a blog you need to check out!

PA Live! Blog of the Week: Unsane Beyond Sanity

NEPA Blogs will be presenting the "Blog of the Week" on WBRE's PA Live! every Tuesday. PA Live! airs weekday afternoons on WBRE from 4:00 to 5:00.

Our PA Live! Blog of the Week this week is Unsane Beyond Sanity by Koral Dawn (http://theunsanity.wordpress.com/).

Unsane Beyond Sanity is Koral Dawn's personal blog about geekdom, personal adventures, photography, hockey, and whatever else she feels like! Koral has a broad range of interests and passions, and her blog allows her to shine a spotlight on each of them. Having a personal blog is like having a magazine where you are the writer, the editor, and get to make all the creative and content decisions - and then present it all free of charge to anyone, anywhere who would care to look. Personal blogging takes a lot of effort and a lot of courage, and Koral displays both on her blog. In an era where ephemeral media like Twitter and Facebook have commandeered both the attention of readers and the efforts of bloggers, it's wonderful to have someone like Koral doing the work necessary to produce a blog like Unsane Beyond Sanity .

NEPA Scene

The Vintage Theater in Scranton closed its doors for good this past weekend. But before it did it hosted one last event, a party celebrating everything The Vintage meant to anyone who took advantage of the wonderful things it had to offer. I first got involved with The Vintage through the Bloggers' Roundtable back in September 2011, at the invitation of Rich Howells. So it was fitting that I found myself in The Vintage this past Saturday evening talking with Rich Howells in the final hours of the place's existence.

We reminisced a bit, but eventually the conversation turned to a new project of his that was just about ready to launch, a site called NEPA Scene that would bring together blog posts, web postings, and original material into one central site that would present every facet of arts, music, entertainment, and other happenings throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. That site has now gone live!

NEPA Scene
www.nepascene.com
also on
facebook.com/nepascene
twitter.com/nepascene
youtube.com/nepascene
instagram.com/nepascene

From the "About" page:

NEPA Scene covers everything from music and movies to food and books, with an emphasis on artists and entertainers located in or traveling through Northeastern Pennsylvania, though its coverage area extends to Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey. Instead of simply reporting on creative people, the site also works directly with them to share content and spread the word about everything that’s happening in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and beyond.

Looking for something to do? Wondering what's going on or coming up? Check out NEPA Scene!
