About the header image: January 1, 2014

A new year represents a chance for new beginnings, new commitments, new resolutions. Sunrises can be the same way, bringing a sense of hope for the newborn day that can easily get lost as the day progresses. A sun pillar at sunrise serves to emphasize the effect of the sunrise, as the light or the rising sun is reflected by ice crystals hanging in the sky that produce the amazing effect seen in the photo above - even well before the sun has risen above the horizon.*

Let this sun pillar be a beacon of hope for the new year. Best wishes to everyone in their chosen endeavors. And keep on blogging!

If you have a photo you'd like to see used as the NEPA Blogs header, send it to us at nepablogs@gmail.com.

*A complementary effect can sometimes be seen at sunset.
