Office Tally is described as "THE go-to site for The Office" by one of NEPA's foremost bloggers (soon making her triumphant return to the blogosphere!) And one of its latest posts (as of this writing) is all about The Office Convention, coming up this weekend (October 26-28) in lovely downtown Scranton! While the weather may be typical Scranton Weather - cold, gray, and rainy - the Flaming Foliage is currently at or near peak, so that should be a special treat for visiting Office fans. And they'll get to see quite a bit of it if they decide to slip out to Chili's for lunch. (The closest Chili's is just outside of the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes-Barre Township, some 20 miles from downtown Scranton!)

Even yet still more NEPA Blogs
I've hunted down a few more NEPA Blogs. But first, here are two more from the author of QAZSE.com:
- twisp.com (actually located at http://twisp.wordpress.com/) is described as "East-West poetry."
- Baldwin Brothers (http://baldwinbrothers.wordpress.com/) is a humor blog - cartoons, jokes, and the like.
- I'm not quite sure how I found Spartacus the Monkey, but it took me a while to decipher that it is an honest-to-goodness NEPA Blog.
- Frank H. Jump's Fading Ad Blog isn't exclusively - or even predominantly - about Northeastern Pennsylvania, but it does have a NEPA category which includes almost all of the "fading ads" - giant ads that were once painted on the sides of buildings, like the late lamented Mr. Peanut in Wilkes-Barre - that he has photographed in the NEPA area.
- For those mourning the apparent passing of Northeastern Pennsylvania Media News and Gossip forum, I have found a site that appears to serve a similar function, at least as far as radio is concerned: the Radio-Info.com Northeast Pennsylvania discussion boards.

City of the Dead
I just did something that's long overdue: I stepped through all of the blogs listed on the sidebar and checked them for signs of life. I wasn't aiming to kill any sites that haven't updated in, say, a year or so, but I was looking for ones that gave "404" or "Page not found" errors, or had obviously been taken over by cybersquatters. I've flagged those sites "(dead site?)" or "(cybersquatted)". If any of these sites belong to you, please take a look into what's happened to them!
A few other notables appear to be on hiatus - which, for me, is the same as saying "this person has stopped posting, I sure hope they aren't dead."
Now I need to round up all of the sites that have been submitted or discovered over the last few months and add them to the sidebar.

Well, it's not Summer anymore, despite the fact that it was ninety degrees in Nanticoke last Monday, so it's time to revise the pictures on the site to reflect Autumn here in NEPA. THE FURTHER ADVENTURES OF HEATHCLIFF is a life blog by someone who uses the handle I am the Walrus.
A new political blogger (my specialty) has popped up. Looking at the local scene from a conservative point of view is Right Winger who tells us "The truth about everything. No matter how much it hurts." Ignorance is Bliss is worth a daily visit and an occasional comment.
Mixing life and politics is former WBRE weatherman Vince Sweeney. He's thinking about running for Congress and gives his thoughts about life, the universe, everything.

A new blog for an old school
GAR Memorial
It's a MySpace site devoted to all things past and present that have to do with GAR Memorial High School in Wilkes-Barre.
About me:
This is for everyone that attended or graduated from GAR High School. If you know anyone else that went to GAR, pass this site along to them.
Who I'd like to meet:
All students, faculty and administration, past and present. If you are not associated with GAR High School as a student, teacher, administrator, staff member or alumni, please do not make a friend request.
If you have family or friends that attend, graduated from or teach at GAR, please let them know this is here and if they have a myspace page, invite them to join us. You may be able to help a graduating class find a few more alumni for a reunion!
We've gotten several notes saying thanks for helping me reconnect to an old friend. This page was set up to help people reconnect to old friends and teachers and keep people updated on what's going on at GAR. In the coming months I will share with you what it is like to build a new medical school from the ground up in a region that hopes the school will help with economic development, relieve the doctor shortage, help improve quality of care and a host of other goals. The expectations for our little school are enormous. I just started two weeks ago so this is all very new. Today it is all only on paper and everything is possible. Which is a good way of saying every single thing still needs to be done.
Feel free to share your ideas about health care and medical education. We want to create something unique here. While we have to be mainstream enough to achieve accreditation from the multiple bodies that get a vote on our future we also want to create a new national model for the education of physicians. I have never blogged before and am both hesitant and challenged by the medium but I do want to hear what people want from their doctors. I also want to hear from physicians, medical students and residents about what they wished they had known, what schools should teach and how we might improve the educational experience. I know we do a good job with the science education I want to hear what else we should be worrying about. I know I can learn something from our conversation that will make our school better.

About the music: Monthly "singing circles" have been on-going since 1982, and often start with a pot-luck dinner. They are informal gatherings, usually held the first Friday of each month at a member's home. We begin with a few sing-alongs, then we take turns around the circle, offering something we have prepared, requesting a song or story, or just come to listen and enjoy homemade entertainment. We use a "democratic" format (taking turns), which encourages people of all levels of accomplishment to participate.

A Blog of Nanticoke
I realize I've been neglecting this site lately, mainly on behalf of my daily posts to my personal blog, Another Monkey. So naturally I'm dealing with this by starting another blog! This one is called A Blog of Nanticoke and it can be found at http://www.nanticokeblog.blogspot.com/ . The goal of this blog is to showcase Nanticoke, its businesses, and its bloggers in the way that this site does for the larger Northeastern Pennsylvania area.
This blog is actually just the first step in a plan I've been working on the last few days to vastly increase my hometown's presence in the blogosphere. Some of the content will duplicate stuff I've written here and on Another Monkey, some of it will be brand new, and some of it...well, we'll see how things work out.
It's just in its initial stages right now, but I'll try to get it in fighting shape within a few days. If you are a Nanticoke blogger, or know of any good Nanticoke websites, please let me know, and I'll be sure to include them on A Blog of Nanticoke!

A few more sites
My apologies to the Card Lady for not linking to her earlier. She was recently in the Southwestern USA and has some great pics.
The NEPA Rainbow Alliance has a blog and a bunch of other sites. What they say is that's it OK to be gay and be proud of it. More power to you folks. I'm so sick of the hate that is directed toward members of my family just because they're "different."
Voice of the People backs Lou Barletta and is holding rallies. Another group that aims to divide us instead of uniting people.
Coal Region Voice down in Sunbury may be technically out of our area but is a good read.
And finally a news/politics site Scranton-at-Large. His mission statement:

I've been neglecting NEPA Blogs for too long. Lots of other stuff going on, as well as my constant computer problems. Internet Explorer just crashed as I was trying to access the emails that I've received with updated information, but I'll try to squeeze out what I can.

Dead links
I'm on the verge of changing the template of NEPA Blogs to something new, since only the new templates make full use of all of the features of the new Blogger. I will have to copy over the entire sidebar of links and any other customizations. This is no big deal, but I believe that some of the links are currently dead. I'm not talking about sites where there hasn't been an update in a few months, I mean sites that just don't exist anymore. Unfortunately , my poor little old PC would definitely crash before I made it through the entire list to check them all myself. So if anyone out there is aware of any dead links on the sidebar, I'd appreciate if you left a comment so I could do some pre-template-switch housekeeping.

Calling all bloggers
The next meeting of the Saturday OT Committee and Operatic Society is scheduled for this Saturday 4PM at Marks Pub 1287 N Washington St, Wilkes-Barre (map it). Pope George Ringo has extended an invitation to all bloggers, commenters and readers to join us.
Michael G. Rennie the Unofficial Social Secretary of the Northeast Blogging Council informs me that he's received many definate maybes from area bloggers that are intending to attend. Our last meetup in May was a runaway success resulting in no hospitalizations or arrests. We even had a state rep candidate show up and this time we may have a few past and future candidates for public office. So clear your schedules and join us.
Mark of Wilkes-Barre Online put together a slideshow of our local madmen.

Sidebar updated at last
I finally managed to update the sidebar with all the nifty sites Gort has listed in the previous few posts. I also included three that were mentioned in an e-mail I just received from writer, artist, photographer, and blogger Kelly Gibbons. Blogs alive
I've been monitoring some blogs devoted to Wilkes-Barre politics. They were dormant for a while but have have come to life in the last few days. I've been reluctant to link to them at my place because they have been so sporadic. But they are NEPA blogs and deserve a listing. Content people. You can't post 3 days in a row, then take a month off and expect people to read you. Here's the list:

Yay, another NEPA blog! Late Night Meanderings is written by "An Old Throwback To The Sixties" who pretty freely identifies himself as...well, I'll let you find that out for yourself, but I knew him from his local radio and television appearances. It's full of photos and essays about the beauty of Northeastern PA. Check it out!

Wilkes-Barre Politics
I did another blogsearch today and came across the Wilkes-Barre Politics blog. I don't think it's one we've got on the list yet, so I'll add it.
I found a way to search, say, all Blogspot blogs for any references to a given term. All I had to do was type in a string of search tems that included the item of interest and specified the site or sies I want to look at. So to search all Blogspot blogs for references to Nanticoke, I could type in the string nanticoke site:*.blogspot.com. I suppose this will work for MySpace and LiveJournal and all sorts of other sites. We'll give it a shot!
Update: Ooops. Hit the jackpot on MySpace. Too many to add. I'll see if I can find a way of firing off a message inviting them to submit their blogs, if they have them.

Links added
I've added links to the two Dave Yonki blogs Gort mentioned in the previous post, as well as to the Dallas-based QAZSE poetry blog. I was able to run Firefox for a few minutes this morning and checked out the post-flood links that I had collected. Unfortunately, it looks like many of those bloggers have moved on, or were never really about NEPA in the first place.
I tried doing a search in Blogger for bloggers from the NEPA area. What I came up with were a few registered bloggers without blogs, and a whole bunch of blogs that petered out in 2004. Then I tried to use the Blogger search function to find blogs that mention places in NEPA, but it looks like Blogger has decided to make this a more expansive sort of search function: instead of just searching within blogs, it searches all websites for any mention of keywords. Thanks, but that's not what I'm trying to do.
So. Colleges will be back in session in a few weeks, probably bringing a small army of relocated bloggers to the area. I should really get around to posting those "Are you a Blogger?" ads.

Flushing out the Bloggers of NEPA
I haven't edited the NEPA Blogs template to add Dr. Tara yet - I will shortly. But first...
I was thinking of doing a compilation of all of the NEPA Blogs bloggers' entries on the flood of '06. But then I realized that that's the whole point of the sidebar: you can click on each blogger individually and see what they are saying about this event that is affecting all of us. Then I thought about it some more, and realized that this would be a prime time to search for more NEPA Bloggers, since many people would be being affected by this event and blogging about it.
The flaw in this plan is that there are as many people from outside the area blogging about the flooding in Wilkes-Barre and NEPA in general as there are bloggers from NEPA doing it. So while it's cool to see New Orleans bloggers pointing their fingers at Wilkes-Barre and saying, "Look at them! They're smart! They built a levee designed to hold the worst flood they ever had! They invested in it! Why didn't we do that?" *, it doesn't help me find more bloggers who are blogging away here in glorious NEPA.
Still, I found a bunch. I'll get to adding them soon. Sometime after I add Dr. Tara!

Wyoming Valley Photos, and goodbye to Dr. Rick
I'm back. I apologize for my absence - if you've been following my adventures on Another Monkey, you know I've been a little busy buying a house. But that's done now, so before I get a lot busy restoring the house, here's some new business for NEPA Blogs:
I came across another local blog last weekend. Wyoming Valley Photos delivers what it promises - photos from the Wyoming Valley. Just a warning: this is a photo-intense blog, so make sure your computer and your connection are up to the task.
On a sadder (and very belated) note, Dr. Rick has taken down The American Check-Up. He actually did this several weeks ago. You can read all about it on Gort's Gort42 - the initial announcement is here, and a follow-up message from Dr. Rick is here.

Belated change of status for a NEPA Blogger
It's been ten days since the Seaslug of Doom, blogger of The Speaking Sisyphus Stone, packed his things and departed NEPA for the wilds of California. While I do not believe he was originally from NEPA, I have moved his blog into the "BLOGGERS ORIGINALLY FROM NEPA" section of the sidebar, a fate that awaits any blogger who dares to depart the loving embrace of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Hey, once a NEPA Blogger, always a NEPA Blogger.

Adding a whole big pile of blogs
I'm back, after having dedicated most of my blogging energy to reporting on my visit to Ireland and London on my own blog, Another Monkey. There are many blogs to be added to NEPA Blogs that have accumulated since I left, so let's get started!
First off, The Lady Speaks has a new address. I think I'll also retain the old location until it no longer functions.
Electric City Renaissance is a blogsite focusing on things in and around Scranton.
Kermit the Blog is actually already linked from this site under the name of its author, Dave Caolo. Dave is the "Scranton Insider" for the site "Life in The Office".
The Nittany Notebook is a blog about Penn State's Nittany Lions written by Alex Grier, formerly of Scranton.
Shadow's Reach and History's Shadow are two blogs written by Scranton blogger Shadowspun.
Things At King's is written by Father Tom Carten of King's College. I've met Father Tom through my sister, who used to be a D.J. at WRKC. You may know Father Tom from the Radio Home Visitor, the WRKC radio program where he reads selected bits of the newspaper as a service for the blind. You may also know him by the secret identity he uses to write a weekly column for the Citizen's Voice!

Eating a green bagel on Wyoming Avenue. The Scranton cop who arrested you for jumping on a float. Anything. The weather man says 60 degrees on Saturday, so it should be great. Send whatever you have to me at this address so that I may post it here, and create great a Scranton Parade Super Page with all your stuff. Sound good? Good. Now have a corned beef and cabbage for me.
